CPRAM Company Limited (CPRAM), a leader in the ready-to-eat food industry, continues its mission to drive the company’s food security strategy through “Sustainable Blue Swimmer Crabs for Thai Sea project” for 13 consecutive year. In collaboration with Surat Thani Province, the Department of Fisheries—through the Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center, Region 3 (Surat Thani)—Viya Crab Products Co., Ltd., the Blue Swimmer Crab Conservation Group (Crab Bank), local fishermen, and the Ban Phum Riang community in Chaiya District, Surat Thani, the initiative released young blue swimmer crabs at Young Crab stage into Thai waters. To date, over 1.6 million young crabs have been released, helping to restore marine biodiversity, maintain ecological balance, and strengthen food security. This initiative plays a key role in building a sustainable food supply chain, ensuring that Thai consumers have continuous access to high-quality food. Reflecting CPRAM’s long-term commitment to Thailand’s food security, this year’s project was honored by the presence of Mr. Teeruth Supawiboonpol, Governor of Surat Thani Province, who participated in the event.
Mr. Teeruth Supawiboonpol, Governor of Surat Thani Province, stated, “Surat Thani Province has fostered strong collaboration with CPRAM to restore blue swimmer crab populations to sustainable levels. Koh Sed, located in Chaiya District, Surat Thani, is rich in natural resources, including extensive seagrass beds that serve as a vital food source for young crabs. The area’s ideal salinity levels and surrounding geography make it a perfect habitat for marine life, particularly as a nursery and refuge for young blue swimmer crabs. To release crabs at the ‘Young Crab’ stage is particularly effective, as the crabs have already developed strength and exhibit a survival rate of 90-100%. This initiative is carried out in academic collaboration with the Department of Fisheries through the Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center, Region 3 (Surat Thani), ensuring scientific management of breeding, nursery care, and fisheries development. As a result, the project has successfully met its objectives while significantly contributing to ecological balance and the preservation of marine resources.”
Mr. Wisade Wisidwinyoo, President of CPRAM Company Limited, said “Over the past 13 years, this project has allowed us to release more than 1.6 million young blue swimmer crabs into Thailand’s marine ecosystem, significantly contributing to the replenishment of crab populations in Thai waters. At CPRAM, we continuously drive our Food Security strategy under our ‘Food 3S’ approach, which encompasses Food Safety, Food Security, and Food Sustainability. This holistic strategy ensures sustainability across the entire supply chain—from upstream to downstream—including local fishermen, Viya Crab Products Co., Ltd. (our crab meat supplier), CPRAM (a food producer), consumers, and the Department of Fisheries through the Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center, Region 3 (Surat Thani), which provides scientific collaboration to enhance crab populations in Thai seas. Through these efforts, we aim to maintain ecological balance while ensuring a stable and sustainable seafood supply for future generations.”
The Sustainable Blue Swimmer Crabs for Thai Sea project raises public awareness about the importance of natural resources and environmental conservation. With a long-term vision, the initiative was established to increase blue swimmer crab populations in Thai seas in a balanced and sustainable manner. By preserving natural resources, the project helps maintain the richness of Thailand’s marine ecosystem while ensuring ecological equilibrium. CPRAM is committed to delivering value to both society and the environment—both within and beyond the organization—throughout the entire supply chain in a continuous and sustainable manner. This aligns with the Three-Benefit Principle of Charoen Pokphand Group, which prioritizes creating shared value for the nation, the people, and the organization.
